Are Mayuri Paris promise rings guaranteed?
Your jewellery is guaranteed against manufacturing defects, from the date of delivery:
- Solid gold and platinum: 2 years
- Silver and vermeil: 1 year
The guarantee covers manufacturing faults. In the event of a proven defect, we will repair or replace the piece. Stone loss, natural wear, and damage caused by misuse or by modifications carried out outside our workshops are not covered.
Beyond the guarantee period, our lifetime support remains available to you: repair quotes, stone replacement, or any other service. Email us at bonjour@mayuri.fr with your order number, a photo of the piece and a description.
Do you offer an engraving service for promise rings?
Yes, and inner engraving is complimentary on our promise rings.
You can have initials, a date, or a short word engraved. Simply provide the text you'd like at the time of ordering: engraving is completed within our usual preparation time, at no extra charge.
One thing to keep in mind: an engraved ring cannot be returned or exchanged. Please carefully check the spelling of your text before confirming your order.
How do I find my ring size for a promise ring?
Knowing your ring size is essential for wearing your promise ring comfortably. We offer several options:
Print our ring sizer: download the Mayuri PDF ring sizer, print it at actual size, and measure your finger in just a few minutes. This is the simplest method.
Measure an existing ring: if you already own a ring that fits perfectly on the same finger, measure its inner diameter in millimetres and check it against our size guide.
Email us: if you're torn between two sizes, our team will reply at bonjour@mayuri.fr and guide you to the right measurement.
Tip: measure your finger at the end of the day, as fingers swell slightly with heat. The promise ring should slide easily over the knuckle while staying securely in place once worn.
Can I give a promise ring without knowing the size?
Absolutely, giving a promise ring without knowing the exact size is a common situation we plan for.
Several options are available to you:
- Order a standard size (54 for women, 62 for men in our Vibhu collection), with complimentary resizing within a month of receipt
- Give a gift card for the value of the chosen ring, allowing the recipient to select their own size
- Order a case with a certificate presenting the chosen design, then take the measurement together before finalising
Resizing is offered free of charge once, within a month of receiving the piece, provided the ring has not been worn or engraved. For a promise ring, we recommend planning ahead so your request falls within this window. After one month, a quote is provided on request. This flexibility lets you create the surprise while ensuring a perfect fit.
What is the price of a Mayuri Paris promise ring?
Our promise rings are handcrafted creations set with natural stones. The price of each piece depends on:
- the metal chosen and the amount of gold it requires
- the stone: sapphire, ruby, emerald, diamond or black diamond
- the size and quality of the stone
- the complexity of the design and the setting
The price is displayed on each product page and updates according to the metal and size selected.
If you love a design but its price doesn't quite match your budget, write to us: our workshop can design a bespoke piece tailored to your project.

All your questions about promise rings
The questions we are asked most often about promise rings: materials, care, symbolism and styling advice.
What is the difference between a promise ring and an engagement ring?
A promise ring and an engagement ring symbolize two distinct stages of romantic commitment.
A promise ring marks a commitment of the heart that precedes an official marriage proposal. It expresses the intention of a shared future, the depth of feelings, or a personal promise, without formalizing the relationship legally. At Mayuri Paris, it is distinguished by colored gemstones (sapphire, ruby, emerald) set in 18k gold.
An engagement ring, on the other hand, traditionally accompanies a marriage proposal and represents the formal commitment to marry. It typically features a solitaire diamond as the center stone.
A promise ring thus offers greater freedom: it can be given for Valentine's Day, an anniversary, or as a gift to oneself as a symbol of personal achievement.
On which hand and finger should a promise ring be worn?
Wearing a promise ring follows no strict rule, giving it great symbolic freedom.
The most common options are:
- Right hand ring finger: the most popular choice, it differentiates the promise ring from a future engagement ring (traditionally worn on the left ring finger)
- Left hand ring finger: before official engagement, some choose this finger and then transfer the promise ring to the right hand upon the marriage proposal
- Middle or index finger: for those who prefer to reserve the ring finger for matrimonial symbols
What matters most is that the choice is personal and reflects the meaning you give to your promise. At Mayuri Paris, each promise ring bears a name with chosen significance, reinforcing this intimate dimension.
What is the symbolism of a promise ring?
A promise ring carries multiple and deeply personal symbolism, varying according to the intention of the person who gives or wears it.
It can represent:
- Commitment of the heart: a promise of love and loyalty before formal engagement
- A relationship milestone: marking an important stage as a couple (first anniversary, moving in together)
- Future intention: expressing the desire for future engagement, without rushing
- Personal achievement: a symbol of self-love and independence for the woman who gifts it to herself
- A non-romantic promise: commitment to oneself, a life project, or even a deep friendship
At Mayuri Paris, colored gemstones enrich this symbolism: sapphire evokes loyalty, ruby passion, emerald hope and renewal.
Can you give a promise ring to a man?
Absolutely. A promise ring is not reserved for women and reflects a modern conception of commitment.
Mayuri Paris offers the Vibhu line, specially designed for men. These masculine promise rings maintain the excellence of 18k gold and precious gemstones, with adapted aesthetic codes: more architectural lines, defined volumes, refined design.
Giving a promise ring to a man can express:
- Mutual commitment within the couple
- A promise from the woman to the man
- A symbol of equality in the relationship
This approach reflects the evolution of contemporary relationship codes, where expression of feelings and commitment becomes more balanced and personal.
Which gemstone should I choose for a promise ring?
Choosing a gemstone for a promise ring is both an aesthetic and symbolic decision.
Sapphire: stone of loyalty and wisdom, available in a palette of deep blues. Ideal for symbolizing trust and fidelity. Exceptional hardness (9 on the Mohs scale), perfect for daily wear.
Ruby: stone of passion and courage, its intense red evokes ardent love. Suited to strong personalities and passionate promises. Same hardness as sapphire (both are varieties of corundum).
Emerald: stone of hope and renewal, its luminous green symbolizes growth and harmony. More delicate (7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale), it requires careful attention but offers singular beauty.
At Mayuri Paris, all stones are selected according to rigorous gemological criteria, set in 18k gold with artisanal craftsmanship.
When should you give a promise ring?
A promise ring follows no imposed calendar, making it a gift of great spontaneity.
Preferred occasions include:
- Valentine's Day: an emblematic moment to express deep feelings
- Anniversary: celebrating one year, two years, or any significant milestone in the relationship
- Mother's Day: to honor the beloved woman in her maternal role
- Birthday: marking an important year or achievement
- No particular occasion: the authenticity of a promise needs no symbolic date
A promise ring can also be a gift to oneself, a symbol of self-love and personal affirmation for the accomplished woman.
What matters is that the chosen moment is sincere and meaningful for those who share this promise.
What distinguishes a promise ring from a wedding band?
A promise ring and a wedding band mark different stages of commitment, both symbolically and in their design.
A wedding band is exchanged during the marriage ceremony. It is a matrimonial ring, typically a continuous gold band, sometimes set with diamonds, symbolizing legal and spiritual marital union. It is traditionally worn on the left ring finger, beside the engagement ring.
A promise ring comes earlier, even before engagement. It expresses a commitment of the heart without legal formalization. At Mayuri Paris, it is characterized by colored gemstones (sapphire, ruby, emerald) and a distinct aesthetic identity, with each design bearing a meaningful name.
A promise ring can be worn alone or, after marriage, stacked with the wedding band and engagement ring according to personal preference.
Can you make a promise to yourself with a promise ring?
Absolutely, and this practice of self-purchase has grown remarkably, particularly among accomplished women.
Gifting yourself a promise ring symbolizes:
- Self-love: recognition of your own worth independent of relationship status
- Personal achievement: celebrating professional success, the end of a difficult chapter, personal transformation
- Commitment to yourself: a promise to take care of yourself, honor your needs, pursue your dreams
- Affirmed independence: refusal to wait for a precious jewel to be given by another
At Mayuri Paris, promise rings are designed for these women who choose, with gemstones of character and artisanal craftsmanship in 18k gold that honors this act of personal affirmation.
Are Mayuri Paris promise rings suitable for everyday wear?
Mayuri Paris promise rings are designed for daily wear, thanks to jewelry expertise that combines beauty and durability.
Several elements guarantee their resilience:
- 18k gold: optimal alloy combining nobility (75% pure gold) and strength through added metals
- Artisanal setting: each gemstone is hand-set using traditional techniques ensuring its security
- Choice of stones: sapphire and ruby (hardness 9 on the Mohs scale) are particularly suited to daily wear; emerald (7.5 to 8) requires more attention but remains wearable with care
- artisanal craftsmanship: rigorous quality control at every stage
To preserve the brilliance of your promise ring, simply avoid exposure to harsh chemicals and remove it during intense manual activities. Regular jewelry maintenance will maintain its original splendor.
Where does the tradition of the promise ring come from?
The tradition of the promise ring has roots in several ancient cultures, long before its contemporary form.
In ancient Rome, promise rings (annulus pronubus) were exchanged before official engagement as a pledge of commitment to come. In medieval Europe, posy rings (poetic rings engraved with verses of love) symbolized promise and mutual devotion.
Irish Claddagh rings (17th century), with their motif of hands holding a crowned heart, served as promise, friendship, or engagement rings depending on their orientation.
The revival of this tradition in contemporary jewelry responds to a modern need: expressing authentic commitment without rushing formal matrimonial stages. It reflects a more personalized approach to romantic relationships.
At Mayuri Paris, each promise ring reconnects with this historical and symbolic dimension, enriched by the language of colored gemstones and a poetic identity unique to each design.
Why choose a promise ring with a colored gemstone rather than a diamond?
Choosing a colored gemstone for a promise ring offers several distinctive advantages over a traditional diamond.
Symbolic differentiation: the solitaire diamond has been intimately associated with the engagement ring since the 20th century. Choosing a colored stone clearly marks this as a promise of the heart, not a formal marriage proposal.
Symbolic richness: each stone carries its own meaning. Sapphire evokes loyalty, ruby ardent passion, emerald hope and renewal. This poetic dimension deeply personalizes the promise.
Aesthetic uniqueness: colored stones offer an infinite palette and distinctive visual personality. Each stone is unique through its natural inclusions, precise hue, geological history.
Mayuri Paris identity: our promise rings celebrate color as an expression of character and authenticity, in artisanal craftsmanship using 18k gold that honors these exceptional gems.
How do you care for a promise ring with gemstones?
Regular care of your Mayuri Paris promise ring will preserve its brilliance and beauty over the years.
At-home cleaning:
- Prepare a solution of warm water and mild soap (never harsh detergents)
- Gently brush with a soft-bristled brush
- Rinse thoroughly with clear water
- Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth
- Recommended frequency: every 2 to 4 weeks depending on wear
Specific precautions: emerald, being more delicate, requires particular attention (avoid ultrasonic cleaners). Sapphire and ruby, very resistant, tolerate regular cleaning better.
Professional maintenance: an annual jewelry check allows verification of the setting, polishing of the 18k gold, and thorough cleaning.
Storage: keep your ring in its Mayuri Paris case, separate from other jewelry to avoid scratches.
